Timer
If cleaning up after the holidays takes up too much time to be done all at once, then split the task up into smaller time fragments. Try setting a timer for a set amount of time and do as much cleaning up as you can during that time frame.

Get Rid of the Unnecessary

Before packing holiday decor up, take stock of all you have. Are there items you no longer use, broken, damaged? This includes boxes you use for storage. To help save time, create a donate, recycle, and garbage pile as you go through items. If you have damaged boxes, replace them with new boxes or containers and recycle the damaged boxes.

Continue assessing items. Is it broken? Can you repair it? Or do you need to dispose of it? Next, items that aren’t broken but that you no longer need or use. If there are in working order and in good condition, add them to your donation pile. As you are getting ready to put away decorations, it will be easy to see what is old and unwanted.

Donate
Many places, including thrift stores, churches, schools, senior centers, or even your list items on your local Facebook group. When donating items please remember that items are in working and good condition. Holiday lights should be working with no frayed wires. Outdoor decorations should not be broken, rusted or cracked. Keep in mind that donating broken or unusable items is not useful to anyone.

Repurpose Items

There are a number of household items that can be reused to help you organize holiday items. Toilet paper rolls can be cut open and used to hold wrapping paper in place. Egg cartons can hold delicate ornaments or small decorations. Cardboard boxes can be cut into squares and used to wrap holiday lights or garlands and keep them from getting tangled. Garbage bags can be used to cover wreaths or faux trees. Tissue paper or bubble wrap can protect fragile items.
