Rainy Day Survival Guide

Rainy days can cause kids to become quite restless and antsy. We all know what happens when your child is feeling stir crazy. They tend to get themselves into trouble, which can sometimes lead to moms losing their cool or spiraling. Today, we’re sharing our rainy day survival guide to help mitigate the chaos that rainy days can create.

Emergency Activity Bag

Keep it all together in an emergency activity bag. This way when a rainy day comes around, you can pull out your emergency activity bag before the mayhem ensues. We recommend the Ayla Tote Bag to hold your rainy day emergency kit! The tote has room for all the different activities and so many pockets to help keep it organized. The Ayla Tote will keep you prepared and looking stylish, even if it’s just for the kids!

Have Lots of Activities Ready

Have a plethora of indoor activities at the ready. Have more than you think you need. Kids are nothing if not always changing their mind or what they want to do. Just in case your little one burns through those activities too quickly, you’ll still have more in your back pocket. Don’t be afraid to get messy. Overseeing a messy activity is going to help keep the activity less messy than if your child were to be caught in their own.

Get Creative with Lunch

Make lunch a little different by simply laying out a blanket and having an indoor picnic! Even though they have lunch everyday, this is a fun way to break up the monotony of being stuck inside during yucky weather.

Some of our favorite indoor activities include:

  • Watercolor painting

  • Slime making

  • Homemade playdough

  • Painting of all kinds including: recycling materials, bubble wrap painting, ice painting, free painting

  • Crafts kits

  • Create your own craft

  • Solo cup stacking

  • Stickers

  • Practice cutting

  • Stringing beads or making bracelets

  • Coloring

  • Sensory bins

  • Tea party

  • Spa day

  • Puzzles

  • Build a fort

  • Board games

  • Read a book together

  • Dance party

  • Indoor Olympics

  • Fashion show

There are so many more activities you can do, than we listed. But sometimes seeing a few ideas can help jumpstart your imagination. Have your children help pack your rainy day bag, this will allow them to feel included in the process. This can help them feel excited when it’s time to pull the emergency bag out! Share some of your rainy day activities with us!
