World Purple Day and Epilepsy Awareness

World Purple Day and Epilepsy Awareness

At Ayla & Co, we believe in giving back, and it wasn’t until this last year that founder, Nikki found a foundation that had special meaning to her. In March 2020, her 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy and since then they have been doing their best as a family to adjust to this new way of life in handling this diagnosis.

March 26th is World Purple Day, a day to help bring awareness to epilepsy. In honor of this, Ayla & Co will be donating 100% of their profit from their sales on that day to the Epilepsy Foundation to help raise money for research and to train more people in seizure first aid response.

What is epilepsy? Epilepsy is a neurological condition that affects the nervous system, also known as a seizure disorder. It is diagnosed after a person has had at least two seizures (or one with a high risk for more) that were not caused by a known medical condition.

As many as 65 million people worldwide have epilepsy, including 3.4 million in the United States, 470,000 off whom are children. This means 1 in 26 people in the US will develop epilepsy in their lives, so you probably already know someone who has it!

Want to help? Supporting epilepsy research can help to increase understanding and treatment options for millions of people diagnosed with epilepsy. Learning seizure first aid is another great way to be prepared in case someone you know experiences a seizure. Check out these seizure first aid resources from the Epilepsy Foundation.
