Celebrate Earth Day

Celebrate Earth Day

Earth Day is the world’s largest environmental movement dedicated to protecting the planet from pollution, deforestation, and climate change. Pollution creates big problems for humans and the health of our environment. All of our actions matter. Taking care of the Earth for future generations is key.

Here are some fun ways to celebrate Earth Day this year!

Plant a garden

Make a pine cone bird feeder

Have a plant and flower scavenger hunt around your neighborhood

Help your child find ways to engage with the environment

Plant your own herb garden

Read a book about the environment

Spend time picking up litter around your neighborhood

Find pollinator-friendly plants to add to your home

Plant a tree

Go for a walk

Try to use less chemicals in your yard and garden

Do an Earth Day centered craft

A big part of Earth Day are the 3 R’s, but did you know that there are actually 6?

Reduce your plastic waste! You can track how much plastic you use with this calculator!

Choose quality, or durability, over convenience. Think reusable bags, cups, etc.

Gather the plastics you don’t need and dispose of them or replace them with longer lasting materials.

Pick up trash in your neighborhood, local parks, or other places you visit. Make sure you wear gloves.

Start making a habit of asking for “no straw”, “I have my own cup”, “I have my own bag.”

Find out if your city or state has bans on single-use plastics. If not, send a letter to your elected leaders urging them to look into banning single-use plastic.

You don’t have to limit doing work to help the environment on Earth Day.  This may be a fun way to find something you or your family enjoy doing permanently.
