Hospital Bag Checklist

Hospital Bag Checklist

Preparing your hospital bag for delivery can elicit a wide range of feelings depending on your personality. There is the over-prepared, the overwhelmed, the last minute packer, and many more. Every mother is different, but there are still essentials needed for your hospital bag. We’ve created a checklist for the essentials, but you may choose to add some additional items to your own hospital bag.

Hospital Bag

First a hospital bag—and of course our recommendation is the Ayla Bag! Did you know it was designed by a mom, with new moms in mind?

Toiletries

While the hospital will likely have some toiletries, bringing your own can provide some comfort. Travel sized personal toiletries are a great thing to have in your hospital bag. This may include: a hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, facewash, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, dry shampoo, and lip balm. Other toiletries you will want to keep in mind are extra hairbands, clips, or headbands. This also includes glasses or contact lenses and solution. Flip flops or shower shoes are also a great item to have in your hospital bag.

Comfy Clothes

Because you will likely be staying for a few days, pack some comfortable clothes. Don’t force yourself into uncomfortable clothes because you feel it is necessary. Take care of yourself, by allowing yourself to be comfortable. This same idea applies to the new baby as well. While of course we love to see pictures of babies in adorable outfits, pack one comfortable outfit for this new little one to travel home. Perhaps one photo-ready outfit, there is no need for the entire wardrobe to come to the hospital with you.

Breastfeeding Essentials

A few breastfeeding essentials can be tremendously helpful. Think nipple cream, nursing pads, and nursing bra. You can also bring your breast pump and nursing pillow if you’d like.

Don't forget this!

An item most people won’t forget, your phone, but because of all the photos you will be taking, calls and messages you will be making, you will want your charging cord and a power bank. You’ll want to make sure your phone is charged so you can use it to document all the special moments of your newborn.

There are so many other items that you will hear suggested. While you definitely can add more to your list, remember not to stress about all the little things. Pack what you need to help you for those few days at the hospital. Tell us your essentials when packing your hospital bag.
